from the architects_ The new farmstead grows out of the terrain, out of the hillside vineyards above the neustift monastery. it becomes part of the cultivated landscape of lynchets and natural stone walls. the farmstead is a continuation of the levels in terrain and of the wall; it blends in with and yet reaches beyond the hillside vineyards. the building comes out of the terrain – two slabs of wall, parallel, play with distances and materials: on the one side, the stone wall typical for the hillside vineyards of eisack valley; on the other side, a concrete wall with vine black pigments. the continuity of the stone wall and the shadow wall create a duality. eight months out of a year, the hillside vineyards are green and the lynchet disappears in the background with solely the shadow wall shining slightly through.
