Ciudad Meridiana, the poorest district of the city and it is moving away at full speed from the middle income”. CM Neighborhood Association, 2013.

From my point of view, most of the problems in CM are related to the lack of education and low cultural level of its citizens. Reaching double the number of unemployment in relation to Barcelona, the tense atmosphere that it is breathed in CM is dense. Thus, I understand knowledge as an existing resource, a resource without physical component, but present in all areas.
I propose long-term reintegration to the current economic and social model, as well as the cohesion of ages and social classes currently very fragmented.
It is intended to enhance the different elements that may activate near Ciudad Meridiana: Collserola, Can Cuiàs and the industrial area, activating key crossing points inside the neighborhood. We act in the joints, where tensions are constant and appropriation of nearby existing activities is imminent.
Always working with the symbiosis between these. Small actions provoke big changes.

We could define CM as a neighborhood of extremes. While the “Red Square” area is fully equipped, on the other side of the neighborhood, the north side, have neither escalators. Is necessary to remark that the council has begun in the latter area recent performances, such as The FabLab, which will try to promote.
At the same time, it will collaborate with other existing entities with no appropriated spaces to carry out their activities. The disaggregation of ages and backgrounds in the various venues will also be matter of project.

Without underestimating the associative nature present in the neighborhood since its formation, it will rely on the abilities of people to carry the project forward.

Three fundamental problems are observed: housing, food and precariousness, all derived from the lack of occupation, produced by a lack of training and low cultural level (twice the unemployed in relation to Barcelona, and only 20% finished studies primary).
It is proposed a system that begins attacking the pyramid from above, and finish solving these three long-term problems.

Knowledge it is understood as a preexisting resource, a resource without physical component and, in turn, present in all areas. It is divided into two branches: Formal Knowledge and Informal Knowledge, being the Formal a kind of knowledge regulated with a hierarchy of “teacher” to “student” and the Informal, the one that develops in an area with no clear hierarchy.

Analyzing the different types of activity (Formal and Informal) that take place in the area, three platforms are detected. Each is equipped with facilities and services that attempt to supply the needs of the inhabitants. According to the graphics and the general section, we can see that the 3rd axis is the one most disadvantaged, and this will be where the main urban action will be performed.

There will be a beginning of Formal System in the Factory which will seek work reintegration to the current economic model. It is here where the route will connect with the other Informal points strategically distributed. This urban acupuncture achieve strengthen cohesion between ages and social classes, always managing the landscape.

CM has different areas of opportunity within the neighborhood; most of them are simple crossing of many routes and activities but are an appendix in themselves. Therefore, we saw that acting on such unions was the most appropriate place, causing tensions to merge different activities and groups as something spontaneous. Following the philosophy of the project, we propose small gestures such as moving a zebra crossing or opening a schoolyard on the weekends.

An architectural project from an abstract element. A project with two sides working together to form a comprehensive system that can cover various issues and problems over time. A first major intervention in the old factory Famosa, generating a motion magnet under the existing envelope. A second inverse intervention in public space, generating an envelope in points with existing motion.

Generation of these tension spaces from existing elements in the environment. This link and this relationship are created between new and existing, producing new spaces characterized with new uses lacking in the city.

It is intended to reuse the unused materials from the environment, such as abandoned railroad tracks, rods coming from the stream and requires cleaning, pallets of industrial buildings, so looking for a tune and being respectful of what already exists.

Acting in spaces with more activity, connecting and relating them with potential spaces existing in the environment.

Working with obsolete infrastructure, recovering their potential.

Opening a space maximizing the relationship with the environment, views and air.

At each junction, promote social cohesion through constant intermediate meeting spaces.

Promote the capacity to participate and contribute with new ideas in the system by spaces of free appropriation.

In order to carry out the program in the factory, it is necessary to re-adapt climatically to improve their energy performance and ensure proper development of the activities undertaken, as well as ensuring proper lighting.
To do this, the strategy is the creation of bioclimatic chambers and courtyards able to isolate, both thermally and acoustically, and generate a visual relationship between exterior and interior.

“The nature of each of the modules will order each space in a certain way.”

Different atmospheres are created to develop different simultaneous activities. To do this, we place separate modules in the negative spaces so “other things” can happen. Thence are born the Appropriated Spaces.
Some of these modules are Auxiliary Modules that serve these Appropriated Spaces: Bar / Cafe, Reception, WC, Temporary Containers…

1. Transition Interstitial Spaces: Those negative spaces left by the Modules.
New centralities are created, and also a succession of semi-public and semi-open areas.
Characterized by being free Appropriation Spaces suitable for everyone.

2. Work Spaces: Modules strategically placed to simultaneously develop different activities.
There are two types of modules. On the one hand, spaces that can be rented by private persons / companies, and on the other, the auxiliary modules that serve these interstitial spaces of free appropriation.
